It’s heartbreaking to think about. In the DRC, many children walk long distances to school without shoes, often on rough or muddy ground. Being barefoot doesn’t just affect their dignity—it also exposes them to injuries, infections, and disease. It’s a stark reminder of the deep poverty they face, where even basic needs like shoes, uniforms, or school supplies are out of reach.
For many children, this is daily life: walking miles each day, feet exposed to sharp stones, mud, and disease—just for the chance to sit in a classroom and learn.
